Lessons in Homesteading

I grew up on a small homestead in Indiana. We grew our own food and my mom taught us how to can and preserve. I was in 4-H for ten years, and I spent 20 plus years working with horses. I remember a lot of the lessons I learned growing up this way, and I’m so grateful to my parents for them. It instilled in me a deep love and respect of nature, virtues I want to share not only with my kids but with friends and neighbors.
Homesteading is a way of life that allows for skills to be passed down to each generation. Skills that give one the ability to make and do things that can help oneself through life. As necessary as they are, these skills are a dying art in this society.
There are some things that are new to me, milking goats is one of them. The fun part is, that I am learning  right along with my children and my homesteading partner. With four new kids, goat kids that is, milking has to get done and its time the human kids learn how.
