Have you ever wanted to enter a frog jumping contest? Well, apparently there are some tricks to the trade, as it were. The book, Four Frogs In a Glass Pond by Laura Blodgett, has some tips for frog jumping but you have to read the entire book and no fair peaking at the end.
I was excited to read the newest addition to Mrs. Blodgett’s book list to my daughters. I love nothing more than finding a talented author that my kids love, especially when the book is about animals and/or nature. The perfect time to read is right at bed. I guess my oldest
daughter, who is 12, didn’t want to be read to. Apparently she is getting too “mature” for her old mom to read books to her. My youngest was more than eager, but just because she likes nature books didn’t mean that this was gonna be an easy sell. So we snuggled down in my bed
for a read.
Four Frogs in a Glass Pond is about four frog friends who are about to go on an unexpected adventure. While trying to catch worms flying through the air, they are unexpectedly caught on a hook. Yes, you read that right, worms were flying through air. Now, you and I know that worms don’t normally fly through the air, but frogs have one thing on their mind and that is food, so reasoning as to why worms should not being flying through the air is not really on their agenda.
I’m not going to spoil the book for you, but I’ll give you a tidbit about their adventure. The frogs were caught by a father and his children who were out fishing. They bring them home and the adventure begins for these four green friends.
Delightfully illustrated with water colors by Stacie Lee, this book will be an excellent addition to any child’s nature library. Plus there is a bonus! At the end of the book is a section on the science of frog jumping (always a winner when a bit of science is added). You can use the science that you learn to have a frog jumping contest with the tips that Laura provides. How fun would that be?
Well, we finished the book, and with a delighted clap, my daughter told me this was a great book! She really liked the science part at the end, and I am sure if it wasn’t the middle of winter here we would be having a frog jumping contest of our own.
